I have now the honor to forward to

Your Lordship copies of a letter dated the 24th of last month, and its accompaniment which I have received from Major General Lord Jocelyn,

also a copy of my reply under date the 10th inst., on the Subject of the Military Defences of this Island.

No 4

I further forward Copies of a return drawn up by the Ordnance Land Office, and a Statement showing in a concise view, the whole of the lots of land, sold,

or in any way appropriated,

appropriated, in this Colony from the day the Island was first taken possession of up to the present hour.

The terms on which Captain Elliott granted, by Auction a number of very valuable lots will be found in the earliest Notifications in the large Volumes of Archives which accompany my despatch No... of the 13th ult., to Your Lordship. These, in which Mr. Johnston made Grants will be seen on reference to the same Volumes under date, the 12th of November 1841, and all lots that I allowed to be occupied were expressly declared, at the time, to be subject to whatever Rules and Regulations Her Majesty's Government might be pleased to lay down.

I have not had time amidst my other more immediately pressing duties, to look into these matters so fully as to enable me at this moment to tell Your Lordship positively

I shall, with reference to my Instructions, regulate the titles to the various lots that have been already bought and improved upon at a considerable expense, but my present feeling is, that it will be only just to confirm the Marine Lots from the day the Island...
